From the Latin Fabia, name of a great Roman family derived from faba, "the bean".
St. Fabiola was a Christian aristocrat of the fourth century who made scandal by divorcing her husband to marry another man. At the death of these two men, she was absolved by the pope after having done penance. She founded the first hospital where the poor were treated free of charge.
The Fabiola are celebrated on December 27th.
